Kristen Stewart's 'Breaking Dawn' Vampire 'Scared' Elizabeth Reaser

'Twilight' co-star tells MTV News, 'I thought, 'This might not end well. She's looking pretty pissed right now.' '
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

PARK CITY, Utah — Ever since Kristen Stewart spilled the beans at the People's Choice Awards that she had been filming "Breaking Dawn" as a vampire that day, it's all we can think about when we get the chance to talk to one of her "Twilight Saga" co-stars.

Elizabeth Reaser, who plays Esme Cullen in the film franchise, teased at the Sundance Film Festival this week that there have been some crazy vampire scenes on set recently.

"There's been some really cool stuff in the Cullen house with Bella," Reaser revealed to MTV News. "There's been some interesting transformations happening."

Sounds to us like director Bill Condon has been filming the famous "Breaking Dawn" birthing scene, and that Reaser got a chance to see Bella's transformation into a vampire. Producer Wyck Godfrey already shared that the birthing scene will be shown from Bella's perspective to keep with the film's PG-13 rating, but as Reaser witnessed the whole scene unfold, what was her impression of Stewart's transformation?

"She scared me a little bit on Thursday, I'll be honest with you," Reaser said. "Because when vampires are newborns, they're stronger than any other vampires, so for a second there I thought, 'This might not end well. She's looking pretty pissed right now.' It was great."

Reaser's praise of Stewart's performance as vampire Bella matches with what co-stars Robert Pattinson and Peter Facinelli had to say about it at the Golden Globes. Pattinson told MTV News it felt like Stewart "wanted to do it the entire time."

"It's really funny, it's like a completely different environment on set when she's a vampire and when she's not," he said. "I think she's going to do it really well."

In the books, Bella becomes much more confident after transforming into a vampire, so it's fitting that Stewart is coming into her own with the role. Facinelli jokingly credited vampire contact lenses as the real reason Stewart is doing so much better.

"She's doing really well. She looks fantastic," Facinelli raved. "For some reason, once they put those contact lenses in, you look very statuesque."

'The King's Speech' Actors, Director Overjoyed By Oscar Nods

'Not used to this much joy, or this much champagne at this hour,' best-actor nominee Colin Firth said in a statement.
By Jocelyn Vena

"The King's Speech" leads all films with 12 nominations for next month's 83rd Academy Awards. The Tom Hooper-directed flick scored Oscar nods for Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role, Actor in a Supporting Role and Actress in a Supporting Role, to name a few.

The movie's lead actor, Colin Firth, expressed his excitement over his nod in a statement to MTV News. "Currently celebrating with my colleagues three feet above the ground," said Firth, who also received a best-actor nomination last year for "A Single Man." "Not used to this much joy, or this much champagne at this hour."

Firth also spoke to the "Today" show shortly after the nominations were announced early Tuesday morning (January 25). "It seems like I was fired out of a cannon this time last year," Firth said about his Actor in a Leading Role nod. "And now it's like I'm orbiting Pluto."

And after receiving news of her Best Supporting Actress nomination, Helena Bonham Carter's statement to MTV News was equally ecsstatic. "Of course, I am thrilled to receive an Oscar nomination," she said. "As my 3-year-old daughter said, 'Yay!' I couldn't put it any better myself."

His co-star Geoffrey Rush opened up about his Actor in a Supporting Role nom to MTV News. "As an Australian, I'm as excited to be recognized and honored by the Academy as my character must have been when his London speech-therapy business flourished when the future King of England happened to pop by one day," Rush said in a statement. "This story has struck such a rich resonant chord with audiences of all ages, which is very exciting — to have your work honored by your industry peers is even better."

Hooper, who picked up a nod in the Directing category, also issued a statement to MTV. "I am absolutely overwhelmed by the twelve Oscar nominations for 'The King's Speech.' I am so grateful to the Academy," Hooper said. "I am incredibly proud of my extraordinary cast and crew. This is a day I will remember for the rest of my life."

Composer Alexandre Desplat was grateful for his Original Score nod, too. "Writing the music for 'The King's Speech' has been a delight, and I thank our brilliant director, Tom Hooper, for offering us and the audience such an inspiring and beautiful film," he said in a statement. "I also wish to congratulate all the other talented nominees for our movie."

Alec Baldwin to Replace Keith Olbermann?

Amid the shocking news that MSNBC fired Keith Olbermann late last week, the network is already looking to find a new marquee star for its growing brand.

Their ultimate wish list is topped by none other than Alec Baldwin.

"He's already part of the NBC family, has a huge fan base and is very respected for his long term passions for politics," a network source says of the actor.

Alec Baldwin For President!

FUNNIEST HOST EVER: Could Alec Baldwin be the new Keith Olbermann?

Alec, whose right-leaning media exec delivers epic 30 Rock quotes on a weekly basis, has expressed political aspirations before, especially lately.

"Yes, it's something that I'm very, very interested in," Alec told CNN's Parker Spitzer when asked if politics was a "game" he wanted to enter.

But could Baldwin really replace Olbermann after his tumultuous exit?

For now, it seems like he's happy where he is ... for the most part.

"To quit (acting) now when it really feels good would be an enormously difficult thing to do. However, I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle class ... would like to seek public office."

A friend of Alec's tells me that if he opts out of politics (and acting, of course), a career as a cable news opinion host would suit him perfectly.

In fact, he could enter the arena without actually running for office.

"He's brilliant on camera and honestly cares about news and fighting for the rights of everyday people," a source says. "Don't count him out."

"There was a time when everyone said Alec would never do a sitcom. Those same people say he'd never run for office or host a political show."

What do you think? Would you watch Alec?

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries: Moving In Together?

How serious are things getting between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries? The couple is shopping for high-end video equipment together.

Just kidding.

But insiders do tell E! News that Kim is "moving permanently" to New York City "to be closer to Kris," who is hunting for a new apartment in preparation for his basketball team's move to Brooklyn in two years.

We're very sorry, NYC.

Sources claim Kardashian and Humphries were checking out a high-rise in Chelsea yesterday morning.

"He wants to live with Kim," a friend says of the Nets' power forward.

And why shouldn't he? With Kim in his life, Humphries is averaging career highs in points and rebounds this season. Also, she has very large breasts.

The 68th annual Golden Globes just got a whole lot more teen-girl-friendly.

Pop megastar Justin Bieber and screen idol Zac Efron have been announced as presenters at the trophy-fest, which goes down this Sunday. Actress Olivia Wilde will also hand out hardware at the festivities.

The newly announced trio join famous faces like "Spider-Man" star Andrew Garfield, "The Office" comic Steve Carell, flame-haired actress Julianne Moore, previous Globe winner Michelle Pfeiffer and "Mad Men" siren January Jones, who will also present awards at the big show. Robert Downey Jr., Sandra Bullock, Robert Pattison, Jennifer Lopez, Helen Mirren and Kevin Spacey will also be on hand to beef up the star power of the presenters list. "True Grit" star Matt Damon has been confirmed to present screen veteran Robert De Niro with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime-achievement award.

Among the flicks in the running for a Globes statuette this year is the drama "The King's Speech," which is up for seven nods, including Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Colin Firth's portrayal of Britain's King George VI just after he assumed the throne. "The Kids Are All Right," "The Fighter," "Black Swan" and "The Social Network" also racked up Globes love.

Fox's song-and-dance smash "Glee" leads the television pack with five nominations, including Best Television Series - Comedy Or Musical and actor nods for Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch. Perennial TV winners "30 Rock" and "Mad Men" are also up for trophies.

Viewers can see who takes home the Globes when the event — hosted by "The Office" creator and U.K. comedian Ricky Gervais — is broadcast live Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.

Knowing very well that the Keebler elves will go wild at the sight of troll nipples, Hayden Panettiere kept it demure by slapping pasties on her well-oiled pecs before walking the carpet at HBO's afterparty for the you knowwhats last night. Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Single To Get 'Glee' Treatment

Guest star Gwyneth Paltrow's character will also hook up romantically with Mr. Schuester.

Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" single isn't available for public consumption yet but the track is already slated to be covered by the McKinley High crooners on "Glee."

Co-creator Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that the song will be featured in an episode set to air in either March or April. The storyline will focus on gay bully Karofsky, played by Max Adler, who is in the closet. Murphy said he chose to revamp the track because of its inspirational vibe; a theme he plans to thread throughout the episode.

"I love that that song is [an] anthem," Murphy said. "This show is by nature optimistic and I think a character like Karofsky could turn to booze or pills or alcohol and kill themselves or do something dark. But I also love Max and I love that character and I sorta want that character to have a happy ending. So I don't really know what that's going to be, but I do know we're going to do a whole episode that's about that song."

The episode will likely be bookended by the release of Gaga's single in February and the drop date of her Born This Way album, which is set to hit shelves in May.

Gleeks will not only get more Gaga, but Gwyneth Paltrow will also return as saucy substitute teacher Holly Holliday, and this time she gets to heat things up with faculty heartthrob Mr. Schuester.

"Gwyneth is coming back for two episodes. She's coming back specifically to date Will [Matthew Morrison]," Murphy confirmed. "Those two have become really good friends in real life and had really good chemistry. She's coming back as a sex education teacher. Gwyneth and I are emailing, talking every week: What are we gonna sing? We're trying to do something fantastic. So she'll be [in episodes] 15 and 16. She comes back [to film] in January and she's with us for three and a half weeks I think."

Are you looking forward to more Gaga-and-Gwyneth-packed "Glee"? Let us know in the comments!

'Hobbit' Star Ian McKellen Reveals Why He Almost Ditched Role

Actor comes clean on his website about a series of issues that nearly kept him from returning to Middle Earth.
By Eric Ditzian

Ian McKellen
Photo: Dave Hogan/ Getty Images

Why did it take the man behind Gandalf so long to commit officially to "The Hobbit"? In a surprisingly candid post on his website, Ian McKellen opened up on Wednesday (January 12) about behind-the-scenes developments and his own ambivalence surrounding the two-part project.

"Could I let Gandalf go? Would anyone else care if I did?" he wrote, going on to cite the example of the "Harry Potter" franchise. "Elsewhere, does anyone care that Michael Gambon was not the first to play Dumbledore?"

The issue all along was not whether he still feels creatively energized by Gandalf — "I long to do it," McKellen told us of the role back in November of 2009. Rather, the sticking point was simply that the production faced delay after delay and, as the 71-year-old McKellen put it, "All I had to decide was what to do with the time that is given me."

First, producer Peter Jackson and director Guillermo del Toro struggled to get the production off the ground as MGM faced severe financial difficulties, and then a planned date to begin shooting early last year came and went. Del Toro departed the project, Jackson stepped in to direct and the production faced a dustup with New Zealand's trade union. The prospect of shooting outside that country bubbled up.

All the while, McKellen remained fascinated with the scripts. "It was true to the style, the fun and the romance of the trilogy," he wrote of the "Part One" pages. Yet when the production finally got back on track, with Martin Freeman taking on the starring role of Bilbo and a February 2011 date set to begin filming, McKellen still found himself unsure.

"I kept wondering was Gandalf what I most wanted to do, more than a new play for instance or indeed a new part?" he wrote. "Sequels aren't necessarily as rewarding to act in as their originals.

"The deciding negotiation was not about money but about dates," he added. "Gandalf is needed on set over the next 18 months but with sizeable breaks when I can work on other projects. My worry that I could not easily escape from Middle Earth was lifted. I am happy to say I start filming in Wellington on February 21 2011."

Check out everything we've got on "The Hobbit."

Lady Gaga Fans Left Oak Room 'Starstruck'

'It's like seeing Madonna in 1984,' a fan tells MTV News about singer's surprise set at New York City spot.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga performs at the Oak Room
Photo: Lauren Suss

On Wednesday night, Lady Gaga played an intimate mini-set at New York City hot spot the Oak Room. And while she only played two songs, one fan at the Plaza Hotel venue tells MTV News that Gaga left everyone in the room completely "starstruck."

"People were actually very into it; they were very calm and collected and starstruck at the same time," little monster Ashley Rosner recalled of the show, which she accidentally stumbled into. "It was an excited crowd, but a reserved crowd. They wanted to respect her."

Rosner and her pals walked into the show when they happened to catch a glimpse of Gaga through one of the Oak Room's windows. The singer, wearing a black S&M-style dress and garters, was seated at a table with her entourage. "We were standing 20 feet away from her," Rosner said. "I am a huge Lady Gaga fan. It was amazing being there and seeing her up close. It's like seeing Madonna in 1984."

A rep for the club noted that not only did Gaga sing, but she also hung out with her boyfriend as well. "So every Wednesday at the Oak Room, we have a jazz night with Brian Newman, and Lady Gaga and Brian are old friends. So she came once before to support him and it turned out she's obsessed with the room and it's the only place she'll play impromptu for free," the rep revealed.

"She loves the space and came there in her getup. She came there with her boyfriend, Luc Carl, and when they first got there, Brian was playing Sinatra songs and she was dancing and singing. Everyone was dancing and cheering and hanging out. She said she felt bad for the horses outside because it was cold. She told the owner that she'd be back in the near future."

In addition to singing "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Orange Colored Sky," the star also chatted with the audience from onstage. "She has such a cute New York accent," Rosner said. "She did talk a little bit. She was just having fun with it. You'd think she was getting paid a million dollars for it."

"Everyone was really calm and collected; everyone was really cool. No one was going crazy and screaming," Rosner's pal, Lauren Suss, added. "It almost felt like I was just at a jazz bar, not at a Lady Gaga concert. There weren't a lot of people there; probably under a hundred people. She [joked] that she got a little vodka on someone in the crowd."

After her brief performance, according to Rosner, Gaga "hung for about another 10 to 15 minutes and then she got up to leave. She went out the side door and there was a Rolls-Royce and an SVU waiting for her ... I think she got into the Rolls-Royce."

What intimate venue do you hope Lady Gaga performs at next? Let us know in the comments!
