'Shape' Editor Defends Controversial LeAnn Rimes Cover
Readers of Shape are furious over the LeAnn Rimes Oct. 2010 cover. The singer talks about cheating on ex-husband Dean Sheremet and breaking up a marriage.
The magazine's editor-in-chief Valerie Latona addressed the readers' concerns in an e-mail to TooFab!
Valerie writes.
To my dear Shape readers:
You are all in good company (why I'm e-mailing you all together) as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover. Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story) how we all are human. And this woman in particular found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment.
But it did not come across that way ... And for that I'm terribly sorry. I hope that we can do better the next time for those of you that will give us another chance.
Humbly,
Valerie
Now Valerie tells HollywoodLife:
"My comments have been taken out of context," she tells us. "I used the words of the few unhappy readers who wrote in. I stand by the fact that LeAnn's story is compelling -- and her courage and strength in the face of so much adversity is compelling. That is why I put her on the cover of Shape for what is now the third time.
The fact is a mere 40 readers out of almost 6 million readers wrote in to complain calling LeAnn a 'husband stealer' and a 'terrible mistake for Shape. I wrote to those women apologizing that our cover choice did not make them happy -- as I have done for other cover stars in the past."

Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never' Trailer Sends Inspiring Message
Bieber premieres the clip, which blends concert footage with home videos, at his Los Angeles show.

LOS ANGELES — In what was already a night full of surprises, Justin Bieber upped the ante at his Los Angeles tour stop by surprising the capacity crowd with the premiere of the trailer for his upcoming 3-D film, "Never Say Never."
After guest appearances by Usher and Sean Kingston, Bieber took time halfway into the show to make an announcement at the Staples Center.
"I don't know if I'm getting enough love tonight; it's gotta be louder — come on, guys!" The entire arena answered his call with a thunderous eruption of screams.
Satisfied with the reaction, the 16-year-old pop star continued by recalling the doubters in his life, those who said he'd never win a VMA or that he'd never get his own movie.
"I might get in trouble for this, L.A.," he said. "I got a special treat for you guys!" Then Bieber announced that he was going to debut the trailer as a thank-you to his fans.
With the lights dim, three large screens above the stage began playing the trailer, which first shows Justin as a toddler, banging an elaborate drum beat on a kitchen chair. A series of home movie clips chronicle his rise to fame — singing, playing keyboard, and strumming an acoustic guitar. Just 30 seconds in, it was almost impossible to hear the trailer over the fans' loud screams.
The preview follows with an explosion of eye-popping visuals from various concerts — sweeping camera moves that create an epic feeling. But what the trailer shows is that "Never Say Never" is more than a concert film. It takes you beyond the stage and shows his everyday life, and the famous people who helped him along the way. Most of all, the focus seems to be on the fans. There are chants of "Justin" in the background and firsthand accounts of the fans' devotion.
The trailer ends with Bieber giving words of encouragement to an audience.
"There's gonna be times where people tell you that you can't live your dreams," Bieber says. "This is what I tell them: Never say never!"
"Every step, everyone's always said, 'No, no, no, no,' " director Jon Chu told MTV News last week. "And he's always said, 'Yes, yes, yes.' And that sort of 'never say never' idea is conveyed in the trailer."
As loud as the Staples Center was at the beginning of the trailer, they raised the volume even more as it finished. Immediately following, Bieber broke into the film's title song, "Never Say Never," with the help of Jaden Smith.
And while the L.A. crowd only experienced the trailer in 2-D, you can experience the film in all its 3-D greatness when it opens Valentine's weekend, February 2011.

Kings Of Leon Say Justin Bieber Sounds Better With A Cocktail
'We enjoy the nighttime,' says frontman Caleb Folowill.
By James Montgomery

Photo: MTV News
According to the Kings of Leon themselves, the title of their brand-new album Come Around Sundown was taken from country singer John Anderson's song "Small Town." It also happens to be a pretty apt description for the album, which is a nocturnal, sultry thing about, well, nocturnal, sultry things.
And, unlike pretty much everything people have said about the album, the Kings themselves actually sort of agree with that assessment. Because, in a lot of ways, Sundown is the soundtrack to their lives ... the overwhelming majority of which happens to occur very late at night.
"I don't think we had any intention of making the songs more about the night time, but maybe the music we were listening to was inspired by that, or maybe just the fact that we enjoy the nighttime," frontman Caleb Followill said. "I think you want to listen to it whenever you don't have a lot of stuff going on and you can actually just relax ... I think it sounds better with a cocktail, probably. I don't know, though — I don't really listen to that much music in the morning."
It's worth mentioning that pretty much all the Kings' music is rather cocktail-friendly ... they are, after all, a band that's not exactly averse to the occasional party. But on Sundown, they've wrapped the majority of their boozy, woozy rock in a downright nightly haze — inspired by, as bassist Jared Followill explained, the music of Beach House and LCD Soundsystem, which the band was listening to during the writing process.
And while those inspirations are new, the basic formula KOL used on Sundown remained largely unchanged: One part sweaty, Southern rock, three parts cocktail-inspired bad behavior. Like the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
"Everything [is better with a cocktail]," Jared Followill smiled. "Justin Bieber sounds better with a cocktail."

Linkin Park's Chester Bennington Explains How He Ended Up In 'Saw 3D'

For the devoted Linkin Park fans out there, it might have come as a surprise to learn that frontman Chester Bennington was trying his hand at acting with a role in "Saw 3D." And while it's not his first film appearance — he had cameos in the two "Crank" films — in "Saw," he plays an actual character named Evan.
When MTV News caught up with Bennington recently, we asked him how he (figuratively) ended up in such a bloody mess.
"It's a funny story. Mark Burg, the producer of the 'Saw' films, he lives next to one of my bandmates in Linkin Park, and when he moved in and they got to meet each other, my bandmate brought up to Mark that I'm a huge fan of the 'Saw' films," Bennington explained. "I've literally, every time they come out, I'm [there on] opening day.
"I love the movies, so [I'm] very enthusiastic about it," Bennington continued. "And so, he was like, 'This is going to be so great. Chester's going to be so stoked that you're my neighbor. He loves the movies.' And from that conversation, Mark then said, 'Well, do you think he'd want to be in one of the movies?' The answer was a 'F--- yeah, are you kidding? I want to do that.' So that's how it evolved, and eventually this role came along and kind of fit."
Bennington added that the 3-D factor upped the action/gore ante a bit — to the point that his wife almost lost it.
"It was really cool," Bennington said of his gory scenes. "At one point, I was filming a part of the scene, and my wife was watching, and we're both huge fans, so we're watching. We've seen all the crazy crap that's happening in all these crazy movies. So, she's watching, and when we're filming this particular scene, she actually almost threw up. So I knew that we were doing something right if it made her want to puke."

Justin Bieber Reportedly Under Investigation For Laser Tag Scuffle
Teen idol was allegedly involved in a scrap in his native Canada.

Teen superstar Justin Bieber is reportedly involved in an investigation in his native Canada for an alleged assault at a Richmond, British Columbia laser tag center.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed Sunday (October 17) that an investigation was underway regarding an incident at a "Richmond entertainment facility" just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The father of a 12-year-old boy told authorities that his son was assaulted by another young male at the facility. The tween didn't need medical attention and walked away with "minimal injuries."
Since the suspect is under 18, police have not released the name of the accused party. However, many reports have stated that 16-year-old Bieber is being pegged as the attacker and the RCMP has stated, "We are aware of speculations concerning the identity of one of the parties allegedly involved."
A rep for Bieber did not respond to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Bieber, an avid tweeter, has not yet addressed reports either.
Unnamed sources have told TMZ that the incident went down at Planet Lazer, a laser tag chain that has a location in Richmond. The website, however, paints a different picture of the incident, reporting that Bieber was targeted by an overzealous laser tag participant who lobbed an anti-gay slur at the teen idol. When the 12-year-old stuck his hand out toward Bieber, the pop sensation apparently batted it away and then left the center.
The incident comes during a busy time for the "Baby" crooner. The singer announced Friday that his buzzed-about 3-D flick "Never Say Never" will be released in February. His illustrated memoir, "Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story," just hit shelves and he is helming a nail polish line. His chart-topping music continues to make an impact and the singer is up for four American Music Award trophies.

The Situation: Feelings Hurt By DWTS Elimination
After his elimination from Dancing With the Stars last night, The Situation's emotional situation is a little out of whack. The Jersey Shore star's feelings (yes, he actually has them) are hurt, and he's "upset," his pro partner Karina Smirnoff says.
Sitch, who stormed off the set Monday after receiving harsh remarks from the judges for his tango, put on a good front as he was given the boot. But it hurts.
AWW: Who knew Sitch was such a softie?
"He put a lot on the line doing that dance, but it is what it is," said Karina, adding that she thought the judges would appreciate the tough lifts the pair did.
For his part, The Situation (a.k.a. Mike Sorrentino) thinks that the judges "were trying to make a statement ... kinda like the first day of class when you see the most popular kid in class and wanna make an example of them."
Whatever helps you sleep at night, Mike.
Best effort or not, Smirnoff admits that Siturina's exit was "very predictable... the scores were quite low, and the remarks weren't that encouraging either."
"I had so much fun on this season. I think his time was cut a little short, I think he had a few weeks in him, but we're going to take it with a grain of salt."
Might we see the couple reunite ... on the Jersey Shore?
"I could be the drill sargeant that comes in and puts everyone in check," Smirnoff joked. "Or I can do GTD! I'll get everyone to do gym, tan and dance!"
At least she's in good spirits. Who are you rooting for now?

New York Comic Con kicks off Friday and will run through Sunday. In between those days is a packed schedule of celeb appearances, comic book sneak peeks and much more — and MTV News will be at the center of it all.
From our usual perch in a skybox above the convention hall at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, we'll be hosting a rotating cast of Hollywood talent, studio execs and comic book creators. And the extravaganza starts even before the Con opens its doors.
On Thursday night (October 7), we'll be covering the launch of the "True Blood" comic series, bringing you the inside scoop about your favorite HBO vampires. Check out MTV News' Splash Page for the latest news on that event, as well as blanket coverage of the Con itself.
Friday brings us the stars and director of "Saw 3D," Seth Green ("Robot Chicken") and the writers of comics like "Jonah Hex" and "Superman for All Seasons." The next day, we'll be chatting with Danny McBride and David Gordon Green ("Your Highness"); Adrien Brody, Marvel Entertainment creative chief Joe Quesada, Eric Bana ("Hanna"); and Morgan Spurlock. Sunday brings us the legendary Stan Lee and the writers of comics like "Ultimate X-Men" and "Green Lantern."
On Sunday afternoon, we'll be bringing you a very special presentation: " 'Unbreakable': Ten Years Later With M. Night Shyamalan." Starting at 12:45 p.m. in the IGN Theater, the director will be sitting down with our own Josh Horowitz for an anniversary retrospective of this groundbreaking comic book movie. You really won't want to miss this exclusive one-time event as the director takes fans inside the film with never-before-heard stories and special surprises.

Christopher Nolan Confirmed To Direct 'Batman 3'
'It's becoming inevitable,' the 'Inception' filmmaker says.

Riddle me this, riddle me that ... who's afraid of a big, black bat? While Jim Carrey is no closer to finding an answer to the puzzle he put forth in "Batman Forever," we do know one person who isn't afraid of the Caped Crusader: critically acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan.
The "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" director has finally confirmed that he'll be back in the director's chair for a currently untitled "Batman" film, tentatively scheduled for a July 20, 2012 release date. In an interview with Empire Online, Nolan revealed that he's currently working on the screenplay to "Batman 3" alongside his brother and frequent collaborator Jonathan Nolan.
"It's becoming inevitable, I'll put it that way," the "Inception" helmer said of crafting a third "Batman" tale. "I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I'm pretty excited about what we're doing so. ... If I haven't announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I'm doing it."
Pressed on whether or not it's safe to assume that Nolan will direct the feature himself, he replied: "I think you can at this point, yes."
Nolan's continued involvement with the series, at least from a producer standpoint, was all but guaranteed, with his return as director considerably less certain. Now, not only is Nolan making a Gotham City comeback, fans can also count on a production start date as Michael Caine, who plays Alfred in the series, told Coming Soon that shooting will "probably start in May next year."
Once again, it's a good time to be a fan of the Batman.
